The golden lion tamarin (Leontopithecus rosalia - family: Callitrichidaeis), is one of the world's most endangered mammals, with a population of about 3,500 individuals. The conservation status is EN= Endangered (IUCN 3.1).
This magnificent small monkey has a highly restricted distribution, limited to an area below 300 meters in altitude within the Atlantic Forest of Rio de Janeiro state.
