Overview

For those keen on birding the Atlantic Rainforest, you can’t miss the Macuquinho Lodge, a birding lodge recently built near the Serra do Mar State Park. The lodge is set on a 7 hectare privately owned reserve and features a nice garden that provides great opportunities to stake out the many fruit feeders and hummingbird feeders.
The garden is also loaded with flowers and fruit trees, so you’re sure to enjoy sightings of a variety of birds, including Green-headed Tanager, Brassy-breasted Tanager, Gilt-edged Tanager, Golden-chevroned Tanager, Amethyst Woodstar, White-throated Hummingbird , Black-throated Mango, Blue-naped Chlorophonia, Violaceous Euphonia, Black-legged Dacnis, and other much wanted species you might have drooled over in field guides...

Departure from Sao Paulo airport or hotel, transfer to Macuquinho Lodge (2 hours). Photography at the feeders.
DAY2
Macuquinho Lodge
Birding in the forest of the reserve, photography from the hides and feeders. Night walking looking for night birds and mammals.
DAY4
Macuquinho LodgeSao Paulo
Transfer to Sao Paulo airport, or to your extension tour, see our suggestion for an extension tour.

The area surrounding the lodge supports a number of small lakes where you may find kingfishers and egrets.
Clear trails are available in the vicinity of the lodge. The terrain is flat and is perfect for some easy walks packed with forest birds like the critically endangered São Paulo Marsh Antwren, Shrike-like Cotinga, Green-backed Becard, Swallow-tailed Manakin, Surucua Trogon, and many others. Several hides are scattered along the trails and will allow you to observe and shoot photos of ground-dwelling birds.
